Itinerary
Day 1
La Paz - Huayna Potosi Base Camp - High Camp (5200 m.a.s.l.)
1 Stop
Huayna Potosi
The Huayna Potosi is only 30 km away from La Paz and is the most popular mountain in the country due to its imposing beauty and easy accessibility. Despite exceeding the magical 6.000 meters in altitude, this mountain is relatively easy to climb and accessible to beginners, at least technically, but good physical shape and prior height adjustment (acclimatization) are essential.
Our adventure begins at 9:00 am in La Paz, where you will be picked up from your hotel in a private vehicle. From there we drive directly to the base camp, located at the Zongo pass, at an altitude of 4.700 meters, in less than 2 hours. After lunch we start the ascent and reach the high camp at 5.200 meters above sea level after a approx. three-hours hike. During the day we can enjoy the monumental view of the mountain peaks above the clouds. Once arrived at the high camp we prepare our equipment for the climb, which starts very early the next day. After a light dinner, we go to bed early to be fit and rested for the next day of climbing.
Huayna Potosi summit at 6.088 m.a.s.l. - Return to La Paz
1 Stop
Huayna Potosi
The second day begins at 01:00 am to start climbing the glacier early. We will arrive at the summit around 7:00 am, at best to enjoy the sunrise. From here we can enjoy the incredible views of the landscape of the Bolivian highlands: on clear days it is possible to see in the distance the white summit of the Sajama volcano, the Cordillera Real (Royal mountain range) and Lake Titicaca. After enjoying our great performance at the top, we will start descending to the high camp where we will have a fortifying lunch, and then we will hike down to the base camp where our driver is waiting for us to take us back to La Paz. The adventure ends in La Paz around 03:00 pm.
